Australian JobSearch is an initiative of the Australian Government.
This site is the most accessed list on the net and is available at
all Centrelink offices. It has a large range of
jobs and you can even lodge your resume on the site to apply for
jobs. You can also search by occupation as well as today's new jobs.
Usually every Australian job seeker who is registered with Centrelink in the newstart program, will be provided by Centrelink with a Job Seeker ID and password for use with the Australian JobSearch web site. In addition, a job seeker in the newstart program, will be assigned to a Job Services Australia agency (JSA) by Centrelink.
The JSA will assist a job seeker to record their resume and job preferences. Appointments, notifications, and reminders are handled by the Australian JobSearch web site on behalf of Centrelink and the assigned JSA.
The role of Centrelink is to provide the job seeker with Government funded financial assistance, and other Government services. The role of the JSA is to assist the job seeker to be focused on job hunting.

Centrelink Careers and Job Information Centre Sydney
Entry is via the North Wing Lift Lobby (to the right of the Florist shop). Go through the North Wing Lift Lobby, and enter through the Centrelink door. The Careers and Job Information Centre is only one of several Centrelink departments that exist in this office. There is no collection of payment forms here.
The person looking after the library is seated at the desk immediately inside the front door. There is an extensive library of information on careers and jobs. They have a library of TAFE and University handbooks and other information. There is a small video library containing defence and other career information. They have available a computerised career assessment based on personal likes.
Allow 40 minutes, or perhaps half a day if you wish to explore different skill levels. This assessment is NOT a psychological assessment, but is a personal preference assessment. (A career counselling session that includes psychometric assessment can be arranged through a Centrelink officer or Job Services Australia.)
They have some job kiosks that access the government jobsearch.gov.au web site. They will provide limited photocopying on their staff photocopier; just ask at the front desk and a staff member will photocopy for you. There are some tables and chairs just inside the front door where printed copies of the Jobguide 2006 are available for reading, and is also available online. [Updated: 2006-07-20.]
